I'm in the process of constructing a single 12" (or 10") cab for use as an extension speaker for my (Wife's?) Vox Pathfinder. Obviously, the speaker selected needs to be efficient, and I'm looking for something British in flavour. Not looking for that "chimey" Vox tone so much as trying to find a speaker that has a fairly early breakup characteristic. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Vintage or new? Both are solid state, but the vintage ones have about 10 more (solid state) watts. With a new one, a black & Blue would be awesome, but I'd just go with a cab about the same size as the pathfinder cab and put a Vet 10 in it - nice sounding little speakers, and you won't be spending more on the speaker than the amps worth! If it's a vintage pathfinder and you can swing it, a Blackhawk Alnico would really rock your world. The low cost option here would be the go-to 30-watt Reaper.
Personally, the 30 watt Reaper would be my first choice. I love that speaker! The Black and Blue would sound awesome as well.
Vaughn, i have a V112 NT cab without speaker. What's your advice for a Pathfinder's extension cab? Black & BLue, Blackhawk or Reaper?
(I have a 2009 Vox Pathfinder 15 EXR with 10" Celestion Blue Bulldog speaker)
After having done a LOT of comparison between the two ... I think I'd go with the Blackhawk over the Black & Blue. They sound SOOOO nearly identical, and the Blackhawk can be used with SOOO many more amps!
