RE: Should I give VET30 a go?

Hi, I play a PWE Event Horizon head. The buidler said he voiced the amp through a Vintage 30.

I know they are known for sometimes harsh high-mid and I think WGS Retro 30 and Veterran 30 are built to address that and improve the stock V30s.

Now, how I interpret it is that the builder of my amp voiced the amp around the V30 to make it sound good, which means he probably has taken account for that high mid factor.

I'd like your honest opinion. How far your Vintage 30 derivatives off of the Celestion ones? If I get a WGS, would I be off of what builder has ideally intended for the amp to sound like?

Yea ... I'd say so.  The Vet 30 is VERY similar to a Vint 30 ... and yes, there is a bit of a pronounced upper-mid spike ... it's just that that spike is smoother when driven hard, and avoids the ice-pick a bit more than a Vint 30, especially on single-coils.

How about the Retro 30? It said it's a brighter version of Vet 30.. So I'd assume it's even closer to the stock Vintage 30?

No ... not really.  The Vet 30 has a upper-mid bump that is more similar to the Vint 30 ... whereas the Retro 30 has a bump that is at a bit more of an extended/higher frequency ... and extends quite a bit above and beyond the Vet/vint 30 as well.  Ther Ret 30 also has more extended and prominent bottom end ... so, over all it's a much more well-rounded speaker ... with less of a pronounced upper-mid bump.
