RE: Egnater Rebel 112X cabinet with Elite 80

I am looking to upgrade the Elite 80 in this cabinet. The Elite 80 is rumored to be a Classic 80 with added low end. It is a closed back cabinet with a port in the front. I use a Blackstar HT-5 head and the sound seems muffled on the OD channel with diminished note definition on chords. I notice the same when I plug my DSL401 into the cabinet. My primary guitar is a Les Paul studio faded with a Rio Grande BBQ or Dimarzio Super Distortion PU in the bridge. The issue is a lower mid mush that I cannot dial out with EQ to help identify the bad freq. I play classic rock, older metal and blues rock.

What WGS speaker would you recommend?
Would this cabinet be improved by closing the port?
How about modifying for open back.

Yea … that’s part of why ported cabs have never taken off in a big way for guitar purposes … the “tuning” of the port can really be controlling!

I’m leaning toward a Green Beret (if the wattage is ok), or a Invader. Oh, and you can also try sealing the port to see if you like that better … but you probably won’t as the box is just to small to be sealed…
