I’ve built a fender princeton reverb clone and used a Jensen c10q RI. I like the eq of the speaker a lot, the scooped mids and the sweet top end, and looser bass response. Way too Fendery, that’s great! I just need it to be louder, with more headroom and more dynamics, especially dynamics! and perhaps have some tighter bass response(?). The Jensen is rated at about 95 dB.
So, I’m looking for a replacement speaker and I think a 10" suits very nice this amp. The options IMHO should be G10C and ET10. I guess I’m looking for something with a sensitivity over 98dB.
Is the G10C THAT loud and dynamic? Is its rating at 96 dB really just a wrong number and it should be something like 98 -100 dB? Does it have any similarities, tonewise, with the Jensen C10Q?
How different will an ET10 be? I don’t know why, I just like so much the idea of that speaker, but I guess being a bit flatter sounding wouldn’t do what I’m aiming for. I think it does it’s own thing and should give a nice and just different result in that amp.
Gosh … I would START with the G10C … and yes, the 96dB spec really is just flat wrong … we need to fix that!
Here is the break down:
“the scooped mids … check
and the sweet top end, check
and looser bass response” … um, not so much … in a 20-wattish amp, any speaker capeable of more than about 25-watts is NOT going to be loose, sorry!
