WGS 12" pair for Super Reverb head

My Super Reverb head is going in for surgery over the next couple of weeks to replace the OT with one that has 2/4/8ohm taps. Doing this to give me more speaker options than the stock 2ohm output offers.

I've been looking at a few combinations of 12" WGS speakers:

  • G12C x 2
  • Vet 30 x 2
  • Vet30 + ET65
  • Vet30 + Retro30

The G12C pair would yield the American tone, probably closest to turning my Super into a 50W Twin. But I'm thinking about something with more mids to bring a fuller sound in that regard. Not trying to turn it into a tweed Bassman, but would like it if my dirt pedals didn't have to work as hard to fill in the midrange.

Any opinions on the Vet30 combinations above? My Super is warmer than a Twin, so I would like to retain the flexibility of the existing treble.

Okay ... having read your question, I think the PERFECT combo for you is a RETRO 30 and an ET65.

What would be the potential result of two Vet30s? Too much midrange? Too dark? Low-end too loose?

I've ran two Vet 30's in a 2X12 with a '67 Bassman and the sound is great, but very mid-focused. I've switched over to the ET65/Retro30 mix in my 2X12 and it's such a better, complete sound. It widens the tonal spectrum SO much more and in my opinion, makes the cabinet more usable for a larger variety of styles. I can play everything from jazz to hard rock with this cabinet no problem. Oh, the ET65/Retro30 combo LOVES pedals and it's a killer mix with BF Fenders.
