RE "1969 Fender Princeton Amp (non-reverb)"

I have a 1969 Fender Princeton Amp (non-reverb). It was completely original when I bought it including the original GE GZ34 Rectifier, and RCA power and preamp tubes and the Oxford speaker. That speaker works great at low volumes, but when pushed, just doesn't hold up well.  I contacted WGS several years ago when I was first thinking of swapping the speaker out. The speaker that was recommended to me was the G10C.  The other speaker that kept popping up as recommended for this amp is the Weber 10F150.  I was set on getting one of these when a friend of mine gave me a Tone Tubby 40w Ceramic hemp cone speaker to try out. I put it in, liked it and haven't really looked back.

3 1/2 years, 2 studio albums, and many many shows later, I am again curious about what this amp would sound like with either the G10C or possibly the Weber 10F150.

Does anyone happen to have experience with these speakers and insight into the differences / pros / cons?

I realize I may just have to try them for myself...

BTW... I participated in an amp shootout and this amp took 2nd place amongst many amps that were 2 -3x the cost and size. I love it, and think the TT sounds great in it, but I can't help but wonder...

Yea ... the G10 (ribbed-cone).

I'm SOOO fond of it ... that's actually the speaker that brought me to the WGS family.  I bought one in AlNiCo & one in Ceramic and reviewed them for Vintage Guitar mag.   I was sooo in love!  So I decided I needed to get to know these guys that made that amazing speaker!

Compared to your TT ... the ribbed G10 will sdd back a bit of "Fender sparkle/chime" ... while keeping the big tight bottom of the TT.  It may also be a dB or so louder.  The AlNiCo version will also add a bit of top-end complexity & compression.

If you decide to give it a try, be SURE to post back here with your results ... maybe even a comparison video??

There is a G10C on a UPS truck headed my way now. I also have a friend with a 10"Jensen (not sure which model) that I am going to compare to my Tone Tubby and the WGS.  I'm not really set up well for a comparison video, but I will start with those 3 speakers and report back with my findings.

I recently picked up a 1x12 cab with a WGS Veteran 30 in it that I plan to use with a different amp, but out of curiosity, I plugged the Princeton into that, and it sounded awesome. Cleaner and more detailed than the Tone Tubby... more low end... the uppermids/high end frequency is shifted from the tone tubby a bit in a very pleasing, and less nasally way. Like it's better eq'd for this amp... The high end on the Veteran 30 is still there, but super sweet sounding and not harsh at all.

Comparing a 12 to a 10, isn't exactly oranges to oranges, but it has me wondering if I should change out the baffle to allow for a 12" in the princeton. Although historically I have really liked 10" speakers in these amps, so it might just be a matter of finding the right one. Plugging into that Veteran 30 is what prompted me to look at other speakers again though, so that's a good thing no matter what, and has me excited.
